Klondike prospectors who conquered the infamous Chilkoot Pass on their way to the Klondike gold fields took a much needed break in the small settlement of Caribou Crossing; today known as Carcross. The name derives from the magnificent herds of caribou that crossed through the area on their historical annual migration.

As the name suggests. It is still operating till these days.

Emerald Lake is a lake in the southern Yukon, notable for its intense green color. It is located on the South Klondike Highway at kilometer 117.5 (mile 73.5), measured from Skagway, Alaska. The color derives from light reflecting off white deposits of marl, a mixture of clay and calcium carbonate, at the bottom of the shallow waters.

Carcross Desert, located outside Carcross, Yukon, Canada, is often considered the smallest desert in the world. The Carcross Desert measures approximately 2.6 km², or 259 ha.

Carcross was originally called “Caribou Crossing” because of the large number of woodland caribou that migrated through the region.
